Senior Security Engineer for Quantum Computing

Overview

The AWS Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) in Pasadena, CA is actively seeking a Senior Security Engineer who will play a crucial role in designing and overseeing security operations for a dynamic research and development (R&D) environment. This position requires some on-site presence, approximately 1 to 2 times per week.

The selected candidate will take ownership of developing a comprehensive threat model and security plan for our research facilities. You will lead various projects and security initiatives aimed at safeguarding our team members, R&D facilities, and essential cloud infrastructure against diverse threats. Your responsibilities will include defining, documenting, and educating staff about policies and workflows for our labs, which span academic, corporate, and industrial environments. In this fast-paced setting, you will manage security program projects with minimal oversight, prioritize tasks effectively, and achieve outstanding results. By fostering a secure yet adaptable R&D environment, you will empower a dedicated team of scientists and engineers to enhance quantum technologies for our extensive AWS customer base.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of threat models and security plans for R&D environments, ensuring protection for personnel, facilities, and cloud infrastructure.
• Define, document, and propagate security policies and workflows for lab environments across various sectors.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to meet or surpass Amazon’s security standards.
• Comprehend the software lifecycle on scientific equipment and address both physical and logical risks.
• Conduct regular reviews of software baselines and network activities.
• Oversee security assessments of internal, external-facing, and third-party applications.
• Create and maintain exhaustive inventories of sensitive hardware and software assets.
• Audit equipment and software alongside fellow security engineers at AWS prior to deployment in development or production settings.

The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300 / year to $247,600 / year depending on geographic market, experience, and skills.
