Anderson Humane is a progressive, limited-admission humane society with an annual intake of approximately 4,000 companion animals. We are a fast-paced organization dedicated to the animals in our care and the people we impact. We are seeking a part-time shelter veterinarian to join our mission-driven clinic team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the medical care of dogs and cats, as well as the care of wildlife and non-dog / cat pet species. The hourly rate ranges from $43.27 - $57.69 commensurate with professional experience and interest in the organizations growth plans. Typical duties, and daily and weekly schedules are determined by current organizational and business needs, urgent medical cases, and veterinarian experience. This role supports our Director of Veterinary Medicine in a collaborative environment providing high-quality healthcare to our companion animals and exceptional service to our clients.
What youll be doing
- Provide safe, compassionate care and medical treatment to the animals in Anderson Humanes population.
- Administer diagnostic and preventative care to Anderson Humane animals, and to those visiting our low-cost clinic.
- Triage and stabilize urgent medical patients.
- Promote safe workplace practices.
- Advance clinic efficiency by implementing medical developments in the shelter industry.
- Enhance the skills training of our Veterinary Technicians.
- Build constructive relationships with staff, volunteers, adopters, fosters, and our community.
- Work in full compliance with all municipality, county, and state laws as well as policies established by Anderson Humanes CEO and Board of Directors.
- Work a schedule and hours necessary for our clinics successful operation and to advance its developing programs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Ideal candidates have
A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited university.A current Illinois Veterinary License and Controlled Substance License in good standing.A valid DEA license.Previous veterinary surgical experience including spays and neuters.Ability to adopt diagnostic and treatment plans based on owners financial resources.High proficiency in diagnosing and treating a variety of common illnesses and injuries of companion animals; interest in other species like wildlife, small mammals, and aviary is a plus.Proficient experience or certification in Fear Free handling methods.The physical ability and willingness to work with domestic and wild animals with a wide variety of temperaments and species.See what its all about : Veterinarian Job Description
