Position Description
Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time counseling and advising assignments serving the incarcerated population. Under the direction of Ohlone's Executive Dean of Academic Affairs and the Newark Center, the EOPS Director, and with the support from Ohlone's Rising Scholars team, the Counselor will provide academic, career, and personal counseling with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by formerly and currently incarcerated individuals, while supporting and promoting their success.
The Rising Scholars counselor will see students in various appointment modalities and locations. Most in-person appointments will be at our local jails, Elmwood Correctional Facility and Santa Clara County Main Jail. Hours and days will vary; modality will vary from scheduled appointment or drop-in and minimal zoom as needed. There will be some on-campus counseling with evening, or non-traditional hours as needed.
Appointment Period : Academic Year 2025-26 (fall and spring semesters)
Appointment Hours : 10-12 hours per week. Hours to be worked Monday through Friday; Assignment may include evenings and weekends by arrangement.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall : (1) Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages OR (2) Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; AND In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages;OR

Conditions of Employment
Offers of employment are contingent upon Governing Board approval. Employment with Ohlone Community College is not complete or official until applicants meet all pre-employment requirements.
