Description :
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist uses multidisciplinary skills to perform a variety of procedures using sealed and unsealed radionuclides and radiation detecting equipment.
These procedures are essential in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Responsibilities include performing technical exams accurately and in a timely fashion.
This includes operation of equipment, transferring patients to the exam table, and correct positioning of patients for their exam.
The technologist must ensure a safe environment for the procedure.
Quality control on all equipment must be performed and documented to ensure regulatory compliance and proper functioning.
Preparation, administration, disposal, and documentation of radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals are required under physician direction.
Accurate documentation of shipping, receiving, use, storage, and disposal of all radioisotopes is essential.
Maintaining room surveys, wipe tests, and bioassays is part of the responsibilities as well.
The technologist will schedule exams, verify physician written orders, and send documentation to medical records.
Maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of rooms and equipment is necessary.
Stocking of supplies and linen as needed is also a responsibility.
Crosstraining in other department technologies may be required for better utilization of personnel.
Independent judgment is needed in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical field.
The technologist will coordinate activities of others, though not in a supervisory role.
Direct interaction with patients and customers is part of the job.
Communication with internal and external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction is necessary.
Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and staff is expected.
