SUMMARY :

The Grants Director (GD) has a passion for and is aligned with the Values and Mission of SVdP CARES, and the goal of ending homelessness and caring for the poor. The GD is responsible for leading the grants program for the agency. This includes the identification of new funding and the renewal of existing funding by collaboration and negotiation with government and private funders in order to secure financial support for SVdP CARES programs and operations. In addition to overseeing the development of a team to research and write grant proposals on behalf of SVdP CARES, this position will carry out these duties until additional staff are hired. The GD oversees the grants management system and will collaborate with program staff and finance to prepare the grant and adhere to the application timeline and all deadlines. The GD will also ensure that all reporting is completed by the deadline. The GD prepares a monthly Grants Procurement Report to be presented monthly to the Executive Team and secures any necessary approvals for grant applications.

  • Lead the grants department.
  • Lead and manage the grant application and fulfillment process with all internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in the execution of the development department's strategy to maintain and increase private funding.
  • Research and identify renewal and new grant funding opportunities and prepare and submit proposals for funding.
  • Oversee, write, maintain, and steward multi-million-dollar federal grants, and all other public and private grants.
  • Ensure adherence to all grant and reporting timelines.
  • Furnish prospective funders with supporting documents.
  • Manage and maintain timelines, grants, records, reporting, and other documentation utilizing a grants management system.
  • Ability to tell the organization’s story and outcomes to funders and potential funders.
  • Represent the organization to and interface with the funders using a variety of communication formats, including in person meetings.
  • Ability to present proposals and reports at funder meetings when requested.
  • Write sponsorship packages.
  • Ability to understand complex budgets in collaboration with the CFO and organization leaders.
  • Supervise and train the grant writer(s) and other grant staff.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs.
  • Stay up to date on trends in the grants industry to ensure the success of the department.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Complies with all applicable training requirements.
  • Complies with all company safety, personnel and operational policies and procedures.
  • Complies with work schedule to ensure effective operations of Agency programs.
  • Contributes positively as a member of a productive and cooperative team.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word & Access)

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : (Pending on position and if prior to hire is approved by Chief Executive Officer, a comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum education qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree, with master’s degree preferred.
  • Five to seven years’ demonstrated ability to lead and direct a successful multimillion dollar grants program.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Ability to understand and help construct required, often complex, budgets for applications.
  • Experience writing federal, state, city, and private foundation applications.
  • Experience in non-profit social services and program operations is highly desirable.

  • GENERAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS : These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to perform the essential functions of the job successfully. Working in an office / site requires prolonged sitting at the computer workstation; standing, bending, reaching, lifting up to 40lbs. and some driving. It is also required to regularly sit, speak, and listen, the employee is also required to walk, use hands and fingers to type, operate equipment, and maintain records and notes. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    MENTAL DEMANDS : Must handle new and diverse work problems daily. Personal maturity is an important attribute. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Must have the ability to listen objectively to people, perceive the real problem and assist in bringing issues to a successful conclusion. Must relate and interact with, volunteers, clients, contractors, visitors, and employees at all levels within the Agency.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT : Environment will occasionally become noisy due to equipment operations and interactions among clients and staff. There may be the possibility of being exposed to communicable disease, possible exposure to verbal abuse or similar behavior from residents / clients. On an as needed basis, employees may be called upon to work outside of the established work schedule or work odd hours. All information associated with the Agency is confidential.
