The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) is currently seeking a Project Engineer to support implementation of high priority sustainability initiatives including implementation of the NYC Green Infrastructure Program and advancing DEPs One Water approach for a holistic water management framework. The NYC Green Infrastructure Program is a multiagency effort led by DEP to implement distributed green stormwater infrastructure to improve water quality in NYC waterways by reducing combined sewer overflows (CSO) and enhance stormwater resiliency supporting NYC regulatory requirements and strategic plans including : the CSO Consent Order between the City and New York State DEC NYC Long Term Control Plans (LTCPs) NYC Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit DEPs Strategic Plan NYC Stormwater Resiliency Plan the 2021 New Normal Report Rainfall Ready NYC OneNYC and AdaptNYC goals.
The Project Engineer will assist on a variety of technical administrative and quantitative duties on a multidisciplinary team; typical tasks may include :
The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental engineering with understanding of water resources and competency in geospatial and data analysis. The successful candidate will function in a support role to senior managers on a number of technical administrative costing and policy planning tasks. This position will be part of a highly dynamic team working on a range of complex tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree in environmental chemical mechanical petroleum aeronautical or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree in environmental chemical mechanical petroleum aeronautical or materials
engineering from an accredited college and masters degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college.
A masters degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.
