Job Title : Shipfitter

Location : Norfolk, Virginia

Job Type : Contract to Hire

Position Overview

We’re seeking skilled Shipfitters to join our team at a dynamic local shipyard. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for laying out, fabricating, and assembling metal structural components—such as plates, bulkheads, and frames—within the hull of ships. You’ll work from blueprints and templates to ensure precision, using a variety of tools and techniques to align, secure, and prepare parts for welding or riveting.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate and position metal structural components for ship construction
• Read and interpret blueprints and templates to determine layout
• Use jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, and other tools to align parts accurately
• Mark drilling locations and install temporary fasteners
• Install gaskets, liners, packing, and structural accessories (e.g., doors, hatches)
• Prepare molds and templates for custom or nonstandard parts
• Tack weld clips and brackets prior to final welding
• Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape heavy metal parts such as beams and plates

Required Skills & Experience

Additional Qualifications

Familiarity with framing squares, combination squares, hammers, clamps

Comfortable using safety gear : hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00 / hr.
