Part-time Instructor in Photography (Applicant Pool). The Art & Design program in the School of the Arts (SOTA) at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for its ongoing pool of part-time instructors in Photography. We seek passionate and experienced individuals to teach engaging, profession-oriented, and inspiring photo courses. The Photography area at NKU emphasizes both technical skills and conceptual development and offers a BS or BFA in Photography, along with BA and BFA degrees in Studio Arts and Visual Communication Design where photography is integral.
A successful candidate should be knowledgeable and proficient in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, advanced digital camera control, digital file management, and be able to converse in and with contemporary methods of current commercial and fine art photography. While there is no specific position associated with this posting at this time, applications will be used to build a qualified and diverse database of instructors for future instructional needs.

The Art & Design, Music, and Theatre & Dance programs comprise the School of the Arts, which sits in the College of Arts and Sciences at NKU. Art & Design offers professional training in the arts, with 17 full-time faculty and 4 full-time staff, emphasizing hands-on work and critical thinking in various art disciplines and studio training.

Purpose of Position : The Art & Design program invites applications for its ongoing pool of part-time instructors in Photography. We seek individuals to teach photography courses that balance technical skill development with conceptual exploration, preparing students for diverse career paths in photography and related fields. The department notes that there is no single vacancy at this time; applications will help build a pool for future instructional needs.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities are to teach photography courses in the Art & Design Photography program within SOTA. The program aims to cultivate creative visionaries through education rooted in principles, exploration, and professional pragmatism, developing problem-solving, innovation, and cultural awareness in students.
Responsibilities include mentoring students, studio management, and contributing to the university’s strategic priorities. The photography area features a teaching lab with Apple iMacs, open labs, a dual-bay studio with Profoto lighting, and a range of equipment (Canon / Nikon lenses, lighting kits, tripods, Cintiq tablets). The print lab services art and design students with printers capable of output from 4x6 inches to large formats.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an MFA in Photography or equivalent, an active professional practice, demonstrated knowledge of photography and digital techniques, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
