Position Summary :
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals to residents in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements and sanitation regulations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining resident health, satisfaction, and overall well-being through nutritious, safe, and delicious food.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and resident diets (regular, mechanical soft, pureed, therapeutic diets, etc.).
Follow standardized recipes and portion controls.
Ensure meals are served at proper temperatures and within scheduled meal times.
Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (including HACCP guidelines).
Assist in the setup and breakdown of the kitchen, including cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, utensils, and equipment.
Label, date, and store food properly to prevent spoilage or cross-contamination.
Monitor and record food temperatures, refrigerator / freezer temps, and other required logs.
Work collaboratively with dietary aides and other team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Communicate any supply shortages, equipment issues, or resident food concerns to the Dietary Manager.
Assist with special meals / events as required (holidays, birthdays, etc.).
Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or accidents promptly.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Minimum 1 year of cooking experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or institutional setting preferred.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture modifications preferred.
Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
ServSafe Certification or equivalent food handler training preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Schedule :
Rotating schedule with two primary shifts :
Morning Shift : 5 : 00 AM – 1 : 30 PM
Evening Shift : 12 : 00 PM – 8 : 00 PM
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Physical Requirements :
Able to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods.
Lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Tolerate hot and cold temperature environments in kitchen areas.
