Position Summary : The current vacancies are in the Parks and Recreation department. The eligibility list created by these vacancies may be used to hire other vacancies in the department. To assist maintenance and operations staff and / or other building staff located at Parks and Recreation facilities (such as the Golf Courses, Ice Arenas, Nature Center, Winter recreation areas, and Parks) by answering telephones, cleaning buildings, removing trash, raking, shoveling, mowing, trimming, selling and collecting tickets, and performing related duties as assigned. Winter month positions will support day-to-day and overnight snowmaking and grooming operations. They will also work as part of a team to cover the cross-country ski trails and sledding hills with sufficient base snow to ensure exceptional conditions for our guests throughout the winter months. Additional grooming opportunities available during and after completion of snowmaking.

Examples of Work Performed (Non-winter months assignment) : Answer telephone calls and respond to public inquiries concerning County facilities. Answer questions from golfers, arena users, and nature center and park patrons. Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in Parks Administration building. Cut and trim grass using hand operated equipment and power mowers. Dispose of trash and trim trees. Assist in minor building and service equipment repairs or with special projects, as assigned. Change cups on greens, move tee markers, and rake sand bunkers. Complete touch-up painting on signs, equipment, and buildings. Lay sod, and repair turf damage and / or apply fertilizer and pesticides (if qualified and assigned). Monitor building during rentals and / or events including the opening and closing of the building. Shovel and blow snow. Operate scoreboards, PA systems, and / or other electronic systems or devices. Assist in changing blades on ice making machines. Operate ice edgers and ice resurfacing equipment. Patrol designated areas as assigned, report disturbances and assist patrons as necessary. Conduct user surveys. Drive company vehicles as assigned.

Example of Work Performed (Winter Months Assignment) Operates various snowmaking equipment including guns, hoses, hydrants, etc. Performs routine checks on snowmaking equipment while in operation. Assists in the transportation of snowmaking equipment over difficult, often steep terrain. Maintain snow making equipment and buildings as directed. Operate and maintain grooming equipment to provide excellent skiable trails. Maintain sledding hill including grooming, removing and installing barrier fencing, installing and maintaining informational signs. Emptying garbage. Shovel and blow snow. Complete touch-up painting on signs, equipment, and buildings. Drive company vehicles as assigned. Participates in start / end of shift meetings. Assist in minor building and service equipment repairs or with special projects, as assigned. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions : 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 Minimum Qualifications Education : Sufficient to perform the duties. Experience : None. Substitution : Equivalent combination of education and experience. Other : Must be 16 years of age.

Exam / Screening Process Information : The examination process will consist of the following sections with each section weighted as indicated : Training and Experience Rating = 100%. The examination for the Park Aide will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions - do not mark "see resume" or "see work history" as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination. Eligible List : The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination / screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Park Aide. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 90 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been certified and of their status. Veteran's Preference : This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
