American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Ortho Trauma position in an acute Level 1 trauma setting, requiring a NE or compact license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in the Med / Surg Ortho Trauma unit within an acute hospital settingLevel 1 trauma center with a 55-bed unit12-hour night shifts with every other weekend requiredRequired to work 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year'sNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 5-6 with nurse aides (ratio 1 : 10-20)Typical patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, ortho trauma, sepsis, cellulitis, GI bleeds, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, colon resections, prostatectomy, and failure to thriveRNs titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips and use PCA pumpsEpic EMR is used; experience preferredUnit is supported by charge nurses and monitor techs; RNs should have some telemetry awarenessFloating required to other Med / Surg areas or units with Med / Surg patientsRNs must pass a skills-based open-book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%Focus on hourly rounding, responsiveness, and managing busy daily admissions and dischargesMechanical lifts provided in every other roomArtificial nails are prohibited in patient care areasNavy blue scrubs requiredCulturally diverse patient population, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese communitiesTwo days of unit-specific orientation providedRequests for time off must be submitted up front (maximum 7 days per 13-week contract); additional requests are not approvedReturning applicants may not have been employed by a CommonSpirit facility within the past yearFirst-time travelers are welcome to apply\n \n Requirements\n
