Position Description
Provide students with disabilities appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Responsible for planning instruction and adaptation of the general / special education curriculum to accommodate students in the learning process. Function as the case manager for students with individualized education programs (IEPs) and oversee their compliance.

Ability to implement and instruct established transition curriculum and other evidence-based district curriculum.Includes culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information as to cultures having significant impact on the world, nation or community.Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.Designs and delivers instruction in functional academics, daily living skills, workplace readiness, and community participation to prepare students for independence after high school.Coordinates and supervises community-based instruction and vocational training experiences in partnership with local businesses and organizations.Facilitates development of self-advocacy, decision-making, and social-emotional growth through individualized supports and transition-focused activities.Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.Maintains effective and efficient record-keeping procedures, including documentation of student progress toward IEP transition goals.Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process and supported in building independence.Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis, including collaborating with adult service providers and transition coordinators.Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and / or program classification.Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, schools, and community partners.Assumes responsibility for meeting his / her course and school-wide student performance goals.Demonstrates gains in student performance.Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as : meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating team meetings.Provides students with opportunities for recreation, leisure, and community involvement that promote a balanced quality of life.Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.Physical Demands

Compensation
Salary is based on theGPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health / dental / vision / life and long-term disability insurance.
