JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician 2 assists in the technical aspects of the distribution of medications and related functions, with the ability to perform tasks independently and to maintain a specialized area of responsibility while aiding in the delivery of pharmaceutical.
Responsibilities :
Application Assistance : Assist patients with the submission of applications for Patient Pharmacy Assistance programs offered by medication manufacturers.
Data Management : Input and track data regarding the status of applications using Med Data software.
Generate refill reports and order medication refills promptly.
Patient Communication : Communicate with patients about the status of their applications and medications.
Provide updates and address any patient inquiries.
Medication Handling : Receive, check-in, document, and update medication records in the system.
Assist with the patient pickup process for medications.
Point of Contact : Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, internal staff, providers, and external sponsors regarding program details.
Compliance : Perform duties as directed and follow BSWH policies and procedures.
Essential Functions of the Role : Coordinate and assist with medication assistance programs for eligible patients, including the uninsured, underinsured, and indigent patients.
Ensure application processes and tracking are completed accurately through Med Data software.
Analyze eligibility criteria and enrollment requirements, reviewing information for pharmaceutical companies to enroll patients in prescription assistance programs.
Oversee prescription assistance applications for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure medication names, dosages, and quantities match Epic EMR for accuracy.
Control drug inventory through the electronic management system; maintain minimal inventory while ensuring the availability of necessary drugs; keep records of drug waste through the inventory management system; maintain current drug information and MSDS sheets.
Maintain accurate temperature logs for refrigerators and freezers.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare or related fields preferred.
Experience in a healthcare setting or patient advocacy role is a plus.
Strong communication skills and the ability to empathize with patients.
Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with medical software systems.
Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Work Environment :
This position may involve a mix of in-office and patient interaction settings, with a focus on delivering compassionate care.
Education
H.S. Diploma / GED Equivalent
Experience
1+ years’ experience as a Medical Assistant
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or CphT (Certified Pharmacy Tech)
Software
Proficient in Microsoft Suite Programs (i.e., Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) Epic EMR experience, Med Data software preferred not required.
Working Conditions
Sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move about.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move 15 lbs.
Language
Spanish (Bilingual highly preferred)
QUALIFICATIONS
Pharmacy Technician (PHT), Pharmacy Intern (RPH-INT) : Must have one of the following from the TX Board of Pharmacy :
Registered Pharmacy Intern (RPH-INT)
Pharmacy Technician (PHT).
