Position Summary
This position provides technical and instructional support for all Technical Trades programs at Northern New Mexico College. The Technical Trades Lab Technician assists instructors with lab setup, teardown, and demonstrations; ensures safe and efficient operation of tools and equipment; maintains organized and functional lab environments; and helps facilitate hands-on learning experiences for students in compliance with college and industry safety standards. The position reports to the Department Chair of Technical Trades and may occasionally support activities at other NNMC sites or dual credit partner locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists instructors in preparing and maintaining technical trades lab environments, including setup and teardown of tools, materials, and lab activities
- Inspects, maintains, and organizes tools, materials, and equipment; ensures safe and proper working conditions at all items
- Reports damaged or malfunctioning equipment and coordinates maintenance or replacement through the Office Manager or Department Chair
- Assists in monitoring lab sessions to promote safe practices, appropriate tool use, and adherence to OSHA and NNMC safety protocols
- Loads, unloads, and transports materials and equipment as needed to support departmental operations
- Maintains accurate inventories of lab tools, consumables, and materials
- Performs cleanup and basic upkeep of lab spaces to ensure readiness for instructional use
- Complies with all college, departmental, and OSHA safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS :
An Associate degree or equivalent experience in any technical trades fieldPhysical ability to lift and carry up to 50 poundsValid New Mexico driver's licensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Familiarity with OSHA 10 or NCCER safety standardsTwo years of relevant experience in a technical, trades, shop, or lab environmentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of safe use, maintenance, and storage of hand and power toolsAbility to assist with lab setup. demonstrations, and safety monitoring in active trades environmentsAbility to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and studentsAbility to safely operate and maintain hand and power tools used in the industryCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Work week days and weekends when requiredAssigned workplace is at the Espanola NM and El Rito NM campuses, with occasional support at dual credit partner sites as neededPHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Work is normally performed in a technical lab and shop learning environment with exposure to tools, equipment, and construction materials. May occasionally require work outdoors or at partner sites.
