Hours : full-time (37.5 hours per week), emergency services clinicians receive a 20% annual stipend in addition to the regular salary

Location : Lynchburg, VA 24521

Compensation dependent on experience

Position Summary

The Emergency Services Clinician (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Resident) LMHP / LMHP-E will respond to requests from the agency and the community for crisis intervention services, to include limited-term crisis Intervention information and referral to community resources. and / or pre-admission screening for inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment. This position will also develop working relationships with area hospitals, schools, social services, law enforcement and other community partners; by actively providing consultation, support and education.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree from a program that prepares individuals to practice counseling (60-hr Master's Program), which is offered by a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency. (Re : 54.1-3500 of the Code of Virginia)
  • No experience is required. Experience with the adults in an outpatient setting is preferred.
  • Related credentials : Resident in Professional Counseling, Supervisee in Clinical Social Work, Resident in Licensed Marriage, Family Therapy, Resident in Substance Abuse Treatment, or eligibility to apply for residency. Note : New hires will be expected to apply for clinical supervision and residency within 30 days of hire.

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices to include but not limited to; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); emergency interventions; family, group, and individual therapies;, psychosocial education; risk assessments; sex offender treatment; substance abuse interventions; etc.
  • Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual’s treatment and access to community resources.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse
  • Knowledge of psychiatric / medical medications / treatments.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client @other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
