Direct Supervisor: Social Services Director

Unit: Seattle White Center

Function of Position: As a Driver/Social Service Attendant Extra on Call (EOC), the driver/social service attendant extra on call (EOC) is to fill in as needed. This is an on-call or as-needed position, with no minimum number of hours per week. When you are called to work you will be responsible for assisting the social service director in daily tasks i.e. picking up donations, working in the food pantry, pulling food for programs, and other tasks when asked. This position aids in us being able to serve our greater community through donations that are received.

Schedule: Monday Friday with the possibilities of evenings, weekends, holidays. Hours typically vary from 7 am 3 pm.

Education & Experience:

  1. A High School diploma or GED completion is required.
  2. Ability to read and write clearly in English.
  3. A valid WA driver's license is required.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 21 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  2. Must have a valid driver's license from Washington State and the ability to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving test. Commercial driver's license preferred with passenger endorsement.
  3. Must take and pass The Salvation Army's Driver's Training and Testing Program.
  4. Current Food Handler Permit, which can be earned after hire.
  5. Current First aid and CPR card, which can be earned after hire.
  6. Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand, or walk 80% of their shift.
  7. Ability to operate a pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
  8. Ability to push or pull moving carts and racks that vary in weight up to 300 lbs.
  9. Food Safety knowledge and experience.
  10. Strong Verbal and Communication skills.
  11. Can work with people of various economic and cultural diversity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Drive daily to pick up and transport donations.
  2. Inventory food and assist with bringing food up for distribution.
  3. Must know how to properly store perishable food according to the food safety guidelines.
  4. Driver must be in appropriate uniform/TSA logo wear gear.
  5. Maintain the Target inventory list and keep the donation area sorted and organized.
  6. Maintain mileage log as required by the accounting office.
  7. Maintain vehicles in a clean and sanitary fashion. Vehicles are to always be fueled up, washed, vacuumed, and cleaned from the inside.
  8. Alert the Operations Manager of any needed repairs to vehicles.
  9. Drive for other programs when and if necessary or any additional tasks as assigned.
  10. Make sure that the vehicle is locked and secured in the parking lot when the driving job is finished.
  11. Break down and haul cardboard to the recycler as needed.
  12. Haul donations to thrift stores as needed.
  13. Responsible for cleaning and upkeeping trash debris around the dock entrance and trash area.
  14. Assist the social service director in the daily operations of the food pantry. At times you may be required to lead food pantry operations when the social service director is not available.
  15. Sweep and mop the food pantry. Mop up spills immediately.

  17. The warehouse must always be maintained (at least once a week), sweep, mop, organize, and prevent pileups. Mop up spills immediately.
  18. Empty trash in the warehouse daily at the end of your shift.
  19. Communicate with stores and vendors to confirm the pickup of food and supplies.
  20. Lift boxes and load and unload from the vehicle.
  21. Operate a pallet jack to move pallets of food on and off transportation.
  22. All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. An understanding of and willingness to abide by The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, and practices.
  2. Ability to understand and comply with The Salvation Army policies and carry out the policies and procedures of the organization.
  3. Detail-oriented, Self-starter, and Team Player.
  4. Ability to schedule work and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  5. Flexible in work habits. Must be able to work with co-workers, assist where needed, and supervise staff.
  6. Customer service mindset.
  7. Ability to communicate with clients in a positive and unbiased manner.
  8. An ability to "defuse" or negotiate situations involving frustration, antagonism, anxiety, and non-compliance.
  9. Ability to be culturally and socially sensitive to all people as there is frequent contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  11. Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check.

Software-Related Skills:

  1. Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar)
  2. Data Entry able to learn skills required to enter clients
  3. Knowledgeable of basic internet skills

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  2. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, and file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  3. Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls;
  4. Ability to operate the telephone
  5. Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  6. Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  7. Ability to access and produce information from a computer
  8. Ability to understand written information
  9. Ability to operate a motor vehicle
