Pilot
You will move very large or awkward vessels under hazardous conditions.
You will board inbound vessels to pilot a ship through an entrance channel to an anchorage, berth, or dock.
You will coordinate and execute docking, undocking, movement, and berthing of Navy vessels during ship availabilities.
You will determine the technical character of a sequence of moves or actions necessary by calculating and taking into account all circumstances of tide, current, wind, drift, channel depth, clearances, weather, and other relevant factors.
You will forecast training, personnel, and equipment requirements necessary to meet long range needs.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and / or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
This position is considered Key / Emergency-Essential.
This position has a Selective Placement Factor. Applicants NOT possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position.
The Selective Placement Factor for this position is : current possession of a United States Coast Guard Masters License and unlimited First Class Pilot License for Norfolk Harbor and tributaries.
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision while performing : piloting and moving large and small vessels in harbors and at berths or docks; assisting harbor pilots with the berthing of ships and verifying berth set up for vessels; tug master experience in docking and undocking ships.
