Quality Engineering Lead

Warren, MI Hybrid

Long-term contract with benefits. Position is slated as contract to direct

$40-45 / hr

Position Summary

As the GM Energy Quality Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for managing and executing the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process with a proactive approach. You will ensure suppliers understanding and adherence to quality processes such as Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Control Plans, FMEA, and Run at Rate verification. This role is vital in supporting manufacturing processes, risk mitigation, and ensuring that both GM and its customers receive the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

Execute APQP processes with assigned suppliers to achieve or exceed program milestones and deliverables.

Conduct regular program reviews and escalate issues when necessary.

Ensure the supply base complies with GME standards, enabling detection and prevention of out-of-standard conditions before they progress to the next process or manufacturing site.

Respond promptly to out-of-standard conditions, collaborating cross-functionally to resolve issues efficiently.

Travel up to 50% to supplier manufacturing sites, primarily in Asia (Taiwan, China, Thailand), to verify quality plans and process adherence.

Lead or facilitate root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions, including on-site verification and read-across of lessons learned.

Engage and manage relationships with suppliers; escalate and communicate with senior leaders when needed to achieve positive results.

Perform additional duties, such as providing public charging support, as assigned.

Provide support during evening hours on occasion to accommodate the Asian supplier base.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree required; Bachelors degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field preferred (especially if experience is below 5 years).

Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality or Engineering roles relevant to automotive production or EV chargers / adapters.

Experience with circuit board manufacturing and / or electrical components.

Proficient in print reading, part measurement, gage design, and interpretation.

Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T).

Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.

Understanding of probability, statistical quality control, and design of experiments.

Experience in investigating quality problems and providing effective technical solutions.

Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 40-50%, primarily to Asia (Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.)..

Top 3 Skills / Experiences

Deep experience with PPAP and APQP processes for automotive launches and industry standards.

Strong sense of urgency, adaptability, and ability to learn quickly.

Ability to work independently while being a team player and executing responsibilities autonomously.

Automotive and quality industry background highly preferred.

Work Environment

Hybrid work arrangements are available. Hybrid roles typically require on-site presence at least three times a week or as directed by management.
