This entry-level position performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets, storm sewers, catch basins, drainage systems, and signage; and participates in snow removal operations during the winter months. The position reports to the Street Maintenance Supervisor and may work independently or as part of a crew to complete assigned projects. Key Responsibilities Perform manual labor for roadway maintenance, repair, and construction. Apply asphalt, concrete, and sealer to repair or resurface streets. Operate a variety of equipment for snow and ice removal. Rake, tamp, and spread asphalt and aggregate. Clean and repair catch basins, manholes, culverts, and storm drains. Excavate ditches, install signposts, and perform related site preparation tasks. Install and maintain traffic control devices, including barrels, cones, and barricades. Replace or repair overhead and ground-mounted street signs. Operate equipment to remove or install pavement markings. Load, haul, and spread asphalt, dirt, debris, or salt for various public works projects. Respond to after-hours emergencies such as snow removal. Safely operate power tools and small machinery such as jackhammers and tampers. Work in confined spaces and outdoor environments under all weather conditions. Follow safety procedures, communicate with supervisors, and maintain accurate work records. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions. Basic math proficiency and understanding of safety procedures. Physical ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and materials of various sizes and weights. Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Class A Driver’s License with tank endorsement. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Preferred Skills Strong attention to safety and environmental conditions. Experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment operation. Familiarity with basic street and drainage systems.
