Please Note : We are recruiting for a Lead Design Engineer. This position can be underfilled as a Civil Engineer or Civil Engineer in Training.
The hiring range for these positions are determined by qualifications.
Typical Duties
LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER

- Performs professional civil engineering work within the Civil Engineer series.
- Performs the duties of a Registered Engineer.
- Prepares and submits engineering plans and drawings
- Leads the work of Registered Engineers and / or Engineers-In-Training and technicians, leading projects and providing training, coaching, and mentoring
- Leads the planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining of roads, traffic / transportation systems, drainage, improvement districts, utilities, flood control and other projects depending on the department.
- Assures project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
- Coordinates the development of project design concepts and criteria
- Meets with various levels of staff including leadership, engineers, contractors, as well as the public to clearly communicate engineering and / or plan requirements
- Enforces the regulations for Coconino County to ensure development is in compliance
- Represents assigned department at various meetings with other government agencies and the public
- Attends public meetings
- Coordinates with other local, state, and federal agencies
- Responds to various emergencies as part of a team
- Assists in completion of grant applications

Under general supervision of a Registered Professional Civil Engineer, performs feasibility studies and related engineering analysis using engineering applicationsAssists in the design and review of projects including capital improvement, flood control, transportation, hydrology, etcAssists in the development of construction drawings with AutoCAD software including hydrology and hydraulic calculations, data gathering, documentation, analysis and helps ensure conformance with County adopted standardsPerforms entry level professional work and a variety of non-registered professional engineering duties within the Civil Engineer seriesMay perform entire projects or segments of broader engineering related projects. Incumbent will be performing a wide range of duties including planning, designing, and maintaining of roads, traffic / transportation systems, drainage, improvement districts, utilities, flood control, and other projects depending on the departmentConducts inspection and technical review of engineering plans in assigned areas including hydrology, permit plans, etc, monitor all aspects of a project to include impacts on other projectsAssists the County Surveyor on in-house survey projectsAssists in the inspection of construction projectsResponds to various emergencies as part of a teamMinimum Qualifications
LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and five progressively responsible experience professional civil engineering work OR any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must have current registration by the State of Arizona as a Professional Civil Engineer OR valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with another state and the ability to successfully possess a State of Arizona Professional Civil Engineer Registration within one year of hire. Must obtain Arizona driver's license by date of employment and maintain throughout employment.

CIVIL ENGINEER
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and four years Civil Engineer-In-Training experience in professional civil engineering work; OR any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must have current registration by the State of Arizona as a Professional Civil Engineer; OR, valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with another state and the ability to successfully possess a State of Arizona Professional Civil Engineer Registration within one year of hire. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.

CIVIL ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Must possess an Engineer in Training Certificate within one year of hire. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report
