About The Position

Job Title : Histologic Technologist

License : HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician or HT(ASCP)-P - Histotechnician - Provisional (1-1 / 2 yrs) within 2 years

Certifications : Required certifications upon hire

Must-Have :

  • Histology training
  • Histochemistry skills
  • Immunohistochemistry skills
  • Histology safety regulatory knowledge
  • Anatomical pathology computer training
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision

Description :

Under general supervision of the Histology / Cytology Manager and direct supervision of the Histotechnology Supervisor or Lab Manager, the Histologic Technologist is responsible for the complete preparation of all routine surgical and autopsy tissues.

This includes frozen sections, sendout procedures, processing, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.

The technologist will also perform cytology preparation, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry, demonstrating expertise in antibody optimization and validation.

A general knowledge of techniques, principles, instrumentation, and troubleshooting abilities is essential.

Responsibility includes confirming and distributing completed surgical cases and reports, as well as performing some clerical duties.

Verification of specimen identification is required to ensure accuracy.

The position includes embedding all processed surgical tissue with quality and accuracy.

Slides must be cut and stained, labeled with the correct patient identifier, and delivered to the pathologist.

The applicant should possess sound judgment in departmental functions and the ability to work independently.

Knowledge of instrumentation and troubleshooting skills are necessary.

Quality management practices, including documentation and maintenance checks on department equipment, must be adhered to.

The individual will have basic knowledge of cost management involving reagents and efficiency, ensuring patient quality is not compromised.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Compliance with all policies and standards of work is required.
