Responsibilities

• The Cemetery Technician serves as field staff performing assigned activities related to the core mission of the cemetery, including interment operations (burial of caskets and cremains), grounds maintenance, physical plant maintenance and operations, equipment maintenance and operations, setting and maintaining headstones, and following the cemetery safety program.
• Work on the frontlines to ensure that Veterans and their eligible dependents are respectfully memorialized and honored in their final resting place.
• Operate in indoor and outdoor settings with hazards such as open excavations, unstable surfaces, and operating equipment.
• Handle potential exposure to chemicals, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, weed killers, and fertilizers; noise and fumes in equipment bays; and dirt, dust, and grease.
• Lift over 50 lbs with assistance as needed and work in awkward or strained positions; perform repetitive motions involved in equipment operation.

Licenses and Certifications

A valid driver's license is necessary.

High attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate and maintain equipment. Successful applicants must adapt to changing situations, including varying interments, equipment malfunctions, and inclement weather, while balancing workload between interments and grounds maintenance to accomplish the mission.

This position is eligible for Veterans\' Preference per ARSD 55 : 10 : 02 : 08.
