Part-Time Crossing Guard

The City of Oxnard's Police Department is seeking a Part-Time Crossing Guard with strong interpersonal and customer service skills to be part of the team. The ideal candidate will be reliable and enjoy working with children.

WHAT YOU'LL DO :

• Stops traffic and assists children and parents across intersections.
• Monitors traffic during assigned hours and location.
• Ability to communicate effectively with school-age children, motorists, school staff, and City personnel.
• Alert drivers to the presence of children and pedestrians.
• Other related duties as required.

Payroll / Classification Title : Public Safety Field Assistant

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS : This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Field Technician in that it is responsible for monitoring and enforcing traffic control for pedestrian safety related to street crossing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Receives close supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.

WORK SCHEDULE : This position is a regular, part-time position working 20 hours per week. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.

EDUCATION : No formal education is required for this position.

EXPERIENCE : No formal experience is required for this position.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION : Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license. Additional certifications, licenses, endorsements, and training may be required, depending on assignment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to speak and understand English to effectively communicate with fellow employees, customers, and vendors.

Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions. Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis. This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
