The Reading League, Inc. (TRL) is a nonprofit organization based in Syracuse, New York, with a mission to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction. TRL focuses on improving literacy outcomes for ALL students. By using the body of knowledge known as the science of reading, we can improve literacy instruction and outcomes. We believe all students deserve to learn to read, and all teachers can teach them.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Reading League is excited to announce the creation of a new Vice President of Marketing role. This leadership position will help shape and elevate our national brand and will be instrumental in driving our strategic plan initiatives that expand our reach, strengthen partnerships, and amplify our mission to advance the science of reading.
The Vice President of Marketing will oversee the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing strategy that drives brand growth, customer acquisition, and revenue generation. The Vice President of Marketing is responsible for building and managing a high-performing team, strengthening the organization’s reputation, expanding audience engagement, leveraging data to make informed decisions, and aligning all marketing efforts with The Reading League's overarching business objectives.
General Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership : Develop and implement a cohesive, long-term marketing strategy to increase market share, enhance brand recognition, and achieve key business goals based on TRL’s strategic plan
- Team Management & Development : Lead, mentor, and grow a team of marketing professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, creativity, and excellence
- Brand Management : Oversee all of The Reading League’s branding initiatives, ensuring consistency across all channels and communications to maintain a strong, positive brand identity
- Demand Generation : Direct all digital and traditional marketing campaigns, including SEO / SEM, content marketing, social media, email marketing, and public relations, to drive qualified leads and customer engagement
- Data & Analytics : Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and marketing metrics. Use data and market research to analyze campaign effectiveness, identify new opportunities, and inform strategic decisions
- Budget Management : Manage the marketing budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to maximize ROI and achieve departmental objectives
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner closely with sales, program, and other executive teams to ensure marketing strategies are fully aligned with company-wide goals and initiatives
- Market Intelligence : Stay ahead of industry trends, consumer behaviors, and competitor activities to maintain a competitive advantage
- Stakeholder Communication : Prepare and present regular reports on marketing performance and strategy to the executive team and other stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferredA minimum of ten years of progressive marketing experience with at least five years in a leadership roleProven track record of success in developing and executing comprehensive, data-driven marketing strategies that have led to measurable business growth.Experience in a not-for-profit environment preferredStrong management skills that include budget preparation, analysis, and reportingRobust analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, analyze data, and make recommendations to senior managementExperience and knowledge of digital marketing, web design, and management, social media, and digital marketing content strategyAbility to identify trends, monitor current events, and influencers to anticipate opportunities to engage in and / or lead the national conversation on evidence-aligned reading instructionStrong organizational abilities, including collaborating, planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitationExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsExceptional leadership and team-building skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire a diverse team.Compensation & Benefits
