Collections Specialist

The Collections division collects all revenues from taxes, water and sewer utility billing and solid waste fees, street assessments, and vacant lot and demolition fees, parking fees and parking tickets payments and prepares all required notices. An employee in this class is responsible for collecting real estate taxes, personal property taxes, assessments, water bills, parking tickets, false alarm fees, garnishments, debt set offs and business license. Work is performed under the direction of the Revenue Collection Supervisor. This classification is considered non-exempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

- Invoice & Collections Oversight : Monitor billing and manage collections to maintain financial accuracy.
- General Support : Offer comprehensive administrative assistance to support team success.
Qualifications
Communication & Customer Interaction :
Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, employing appropriate de-escalation techniques when needed.Knowledge & Expertise :
Possess general knowledge of City codes, laws, regulations, and policies related to licensing, billing, collections, and customer service.Demonstrate considerable expertise in account and statistical recordkeeping principles, methods, and practices.Representation & Collaboration :
Effectively represent the City's billing, collection, and customer service functions when engaging with individuals, organizations, and government agencies as delegated.Minimum Requirements :
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency with specialized training in finance or accounting or any other field, and 6 months of work experience in collections or customer service work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Supplemental Information
