The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for managing the Buyer’s day to day activities and communications. They will support and execute short and long-term goals for supplier performance, on time delivery, cost reduction, lead time reduction and supplier selection. Establish and maintain effective policies and procedures for Buyers and ensure the effective operations of the Purchasing Department.
Key Activities and Responsibilities :
- Assume leadership role of the purchasing department and manage all aspects of its operations.
- Exhibit visible leadership in the pursuit of continuous improvement in all aspects of performance within procurement.
- Develop, implement and routinely refine buying strategies, placing emphasis on cost reduction, quality improvement, technology development, on time delivery, inventory reduction and lead-time reduction.
- Manage assigned personnel and provide for departmental resource planning and budgeting, recruitment, selection, coach, training, development, policy enforcement, performance management, corrective action and compensation. Ensure responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities of all direct subordinates are defined, communicated and understood.
- Support production needs through the management of shortages and expediting, working with planners and scheduling appropriate safety stock levels.
- Develop and implement purchasing policies and procedures to guide assigned personnel in their dealings with suppliers, the public and other departments of the Company and its affiliates.
- Keep constantly apprised of economic and / or business situations as they affect purchasing policy and then make decisions to adequately meet those changing conditions.
- Maintain and support an ongoing flow or project tracking and project management to support department initiatives including (but not limited to) cost savings, risk mitigation (including liability mitigation), process improvements, and lead time reductions.
- Train buyers on various aspects of systems use and processes (JDE, BI, ECR), negotiations, and any other area of need.
- Participate in the selection of suppliers for materials and services.
Skills Needed / Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Management or other related field of study required.Minimum of (8) years’ experience in procurement and / or supply chain within a distribution and / or manufacturing environment preferred with at least five (3) years of supervisory experienceExcellent understanding of supply chain management within a manufacturing environmentAbility to analyze complex data, identify and execute savings opportunities, develop / implement sourcing strategies and quickly execute tasks to realize benefitsStrong negotiation and problem-solving skillsStrong project management experience; capable of managing multiple priorities and coordinating strategies / activities across multiple business functionsPrevious MRP / ERP experience required, preferably JD EdwardsProficiency in MS Office software tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and ProjectComfortable and able to troubleshoot process gaps and inefficiencies, leading to resolutionStrong experience hiring, leading, mentoring, and improving skill sets of the supply chain teamAbility to communicate to and influence diverse audiences of differing functions and geographic locations while exhibiting tact, diplomacy, and professionalismExcellent written and verbal communicationBenefits of Employment
