GENERAL DEFINITION
Monitors and provide security and safety for the facility, staff, residents, and detainees during incarceration.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Corrections Sergeant and under the general supervision of the Operations Lieutenant.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None
DUTIES
Required to attend all meetings, informational sessions, trainings.
Shadows certified Corrections officers while in training and accompanies them in the conduct of assigned duties.
Supervises the care and housing of residents.
Maintains Correctional Facility issued uniforms and equipment in a clean, orderly, and professional manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to provide custody and security of inmates including observing actions of inmates. Ability to perform "pat" and / or "strip" search of inmates. Ability to read, write, and understand both oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively in both Zuni and English language. Knowledge in use of force, and the proper treatment of adults and juveniles. Knowledge in dealing with the public. Knowledge in dealing with a diverse Resident population. Knowledge in performing first aid and CPR. Knowledge of the proper operations of a multi-channel two-way radio. Must be able to administer multiple tasks. Must have ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately. Good knowledge of Tribal and Department Personnel Policies and Procedures. Must have ability to write reports and general correspondence. Must have the ability to utilize and maintain computerized database system. Must have ability to set up personnel records, correspondence files, program information files, and reference material files. Must have experience and knowledge in general supervision. Must have ability to maintain good working relationship with other tribal employees and general public.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Must be 18 years of age or older. High School Graduate or Equivalent with six (6) months combination of post high school education or training.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES
Must have a valid New Mexico Driver's License with no DWI / DUI convictions within the past three (3) years.
Driving is an essential part of the duties.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is subject to Pre-Employment drug testing. Position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for duration of employment. Must be willing to work 12-hour shift, weekends and holidays, and overtime. May be exposed to potentially dangerous situations. Subject to annual physical fitness testing, annual physical examination and required random drug testing. Must undergo and successfully pass a thorough background investigation including FBI Fingerprint Check.
