Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Med Surg Discipline : RN Start Date : 12 / 15 / 2025 Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, days Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Float Pool position in a Level II Trauma Center with a focus on diverse adult populations and advanced MedSurg skills. Responsibilities Work in a hospital setting within a Level II Trauma Center Float across multiple adult MedSurg units including trauma surgical, neuroscience, clinical decision, ortho, urology, and oncology Patient populations include surgical, neuro, orthopedic, urology, general med / surg, oncology, and high-acuity cases Typical patient ratios range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6 depending on the unit Units require care for patients with IVs, chest tubes, PEG / NGT, wounds, drains, and tracheotomies Requires the ability to interpret telemetry strips every 4 hours Uses EMR Cerner (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors Work schedule is 12-hour day shifts (7 : 00 AM – 7 : 00 PM) with a 4-week scheduling cycle Every other weekend or four weekend days per month required No call responsibilities Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy Float to like units and coverage may include MS, ICU tasks, or ER holds as needed Provide comprehensive care including med administration, wound management, and specialized procedures across multiple units Support includes charge nurse, CNA, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, hospitalist, and tele techs Travelers new to the facility or returning after more than one year receive 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation Scrubs may be any color per dress code policy First-time travelers are considered if all experience criteria are met RTO may be approved for up to 7 days, except during designated blackout dates Parking available in designated deck levels only Requirements Active AL or compact RN license required Minimum 18 months recent MedSurg experience required At least 1 year of trauma / surgical experience required for trauma surgical unit Certifications : BLS and NIHSS required Chemo administration experience highly preferred for oncology unit; certification needed if administering chemo Experience with wound care, chest tubes, IV skills, trach care, PEG / NGT, and other med / surg procedures required Must be able to interpret and document telemetry strips Experience with Cerner EMR preferred Previous staff must be gone at least 6 months before returning as a traveler Local candidates residing within a 60-mile radius are not eligible Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-638870.
