Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager will lead a small team responsible for analyzing shipping data, monitoring carrier performance, and identifying opportunities to optimize cost and service. This role combines hands-on analytics with people leadership, ensuring that insights are turned into actionable improvements across operations. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, proven experience in transportation / logistics, and the ability to coach and guide a team while collaborating across departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a team responsible for transportation analytics, reporting, and carrier performance monitoring.
• Analyze transportation spend, delivery performance, and customer impact to identify trends and cost-saving opportunities.
• Build and maintain dashboards and KPI scorecards (on-time delivery, exceptions, claims, cost per package, etc.).
• Partner with Finance and Operations to forecast transportation spend, track budget vs. actuals, and highlight savings initiatives.
• Support carrier negotiations with data-driven insights and benchmarking of rates and service levels.
• Collaborate with IT, Transportation, and Warehouse teams to optimize use of TMS, WMS, and multi-carrier platforms.
• Conduct root-cause analysis on delivery issues, claims, and SLA misses, providing recommendations and action plans.
• Evaluate and pilot new carriers, technologies, and rate shopping tools.
• Provide regular updates and presentations to leadership, summarizing transportation trends, risks, and results.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the team.
