Med / Surg RN Job Details

Location : Abingdon, Virginia (Zip : 24211) – Virginia nursing jobs

Facility : Community Hospital, Medical / Surgical Unit

Assignment Type : Travel RN contract

Start Date : November 16, 2025

End Date : February 15, 2026

Duration : 13-week travel nursing assignment

Shift : Night shifts, 12 hours (16 : 30 - 07 : 00)

Schedule : 36 or 48 hours per week, rotating weekends and holidays

Floating : Required (PCU competencies preferred)

Orientation : 16 hours (non-billable)

Estimated Weekly Salary : $2020-$2070

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experience

Active Registered Nurse license (RN license in-hand required at submission)

AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Epic charting system experience required

BSN required for international travel nurses

Must reside at least 100 miles from hospital service area

Flu vaccine required (medical / religious exemptions accepted)

Ability to complete compliance and drug testing prior to start

Facial hair must be trimmed / removed for fit testing per CDC guidelines

Preferred : Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital, LTAC, Trauma Level I / II experience

Med / Surg RN Responsibilities

Deliver safe, effective nursing care to adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics in a 34-bed medical / surgical unit

Manage patient ratios of 7 : 1 during night shifts

Float to other hospital units as needed based on census

Participate in clinical education and support of nursing students

Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and patient management

Perform nursing procedures : IV starts, wound care, telemetry monitoring, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, and more

Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response

Adhere to infection control, isolation precautions, and hospital protocols
