As a Fitter / Tack Welder, you will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and tacking together heavy steel components used in chassis and structural builds. Unlike production welders, this role emphasizes preparing parts and ensuring proper alignment for final welding. You’ll work with measuring tools, layouts, and blueprints to ensure accuracy and quality in every step of the process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Lay out, fit, and tack-weld steel components per blueprints, work orders, or supervisor instructions.
Use measuring tools (tape measure, square, levels) to verify dimensions and ensure correct fit-up.
Operate hand tools, grinders, hoists, torches, and other fabrication equipment.
Work with welders and team members to prepare assemblies for final welding.
Read and follow job order specifications, blueprints, and diagrams.
Maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Keep work area clean and organized in compliance with safety requirements.
Qualifications :
Education and / or Experience :
Prior welding and fitting experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting preferred.
Ability to pass a tack weld test.
Strong blueprint reading and measuring skills.
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and stand for extended shifts.
Dependable, team-oriented, and safety-conscious.
