Department Summary

Established in 1947, UCLA’s Department of Social Welfare is committed to enhancing human well-being and promoting social and economic justice for disadvantaged populations. Among UCLA Luskin’s departments, Social Welfare is the oldest and largest in terms of both student enrollment and number of faculty. As professionals and scholars at a great public research university, the faculty has a responsibility to train the next generation of practitioners and leaders for the social work profession and to advance the knowledge base for social work policy and practice in California and around the world.

Position Summary

The Research Data Analyst 2 will conduct research activities that include, but are not limited to, designing and implementing data collection protocols, cleaning and managing datasets to ensure accuracy and completeness, and conducting both descriptive and advanced statistical analyses. The Research Data Analyst 2 will contribute to grant development, including conceptual framing, writing, and preparing budgets, as well as disseminating findings through conference presentations, research briefs, and the preparation of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. In addition, they may have opportunities to support conceptual model development, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams, helping to translate data into actionable insights and policy-relevant recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must have at minimum 3 years of relevant research experience; experience gained inschool counts toward this requirement. (Required)
  • Mastery of data analysis and data visualization in R or Stata. (Required)
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and follow through on tasks with minimal direction. (Required)
  • Ability to work discreetly with sensitive and confidential data. (Required)
  • Strong initiative and a resourceful approach to problem-solving. (Required)
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills. (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in public health, psychology, sociology, public policy or other relevant social / mathematical science field. (Required)
  • Master's Degree in public health, psychology, sociology, public policy or other relevant social / mathematical science field. (Preferred)
