Data Engineering Manager

Vari is looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead our data practice within our Technology Team. In this role, you will drive the transformation of our internal data platforma critical foundation for our AI and automation strategy. You will partner with internal stakeholders to refine and execute our data strategy, vision, and roadmap to deliver the business insights, analytics, and AI-powered solutions required to scale our business.
This is a player-coach role on a lean, high-impact team. You'll lead one direct report while spending the majority of your time hands-onbuilding data pipelines, designing ETL processes, architecting data warehouse solutions, and enabling AI capabilities. We need someone who can think strategically about our data platform vision while rolling up their sleeves to deliver both traditional data engineering and cutting-edge AI solutions. Responsibilities :
Design, develop, and support high-quality data pipelines, ETL processes, data warehouse solutions, analytics, and reporting capabilities that serve both traditional business intelligence needs and AI / ML initiatives.Partner with stakeholders across the business to develop and operationalize our data vision, strategy, and roadmapsupporting both day-to-day business analytics and our enterprise AI strategy.Implement Azure AI solutions (OpenAI Service, AI Services, Machine Learning, AI Studio) to automate processes and enhance decision-making, while maintaining focus on core data engineering deliverables.Architect and implement data governance frameworks, data quality controls, and monitoring systems to ensure reliability and accuracy of data assets across all use cases.Lead and mentor one direct report, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional growth in modern data engineering and AI-adjacent technologies.Champion continuous process improvement, performance management, and metrics-driven results across all data engineering activitiesfrom traditional BI and reporting to AI-enabled automation.Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline preferred.7+ years of hands-on data engineering experience including ETL / ELT development, data warehousing, data modeling, master data management, data governance, and data quality, with proven ability to design and build production data platforms supporting both traditional analytics and AI / ML initiatives.Hands-on experience with Azure AI platform (OpenAI Service, AI Services, Machine Learning, AI Studio) and Azure Data Factory strongly preferred, or equivalent cloud AI platforms (AWS Bedrock / SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI).Experience working with Salesforce and SAP data solutions and analytics is a plus.Minimum 5 years hands-on Microsoft SQL experience required.Deep technical understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and data profiling concepts critical for AI accuracy and reliability.Familiarity with AI / ML concepts including feature engineering, data versioning, prompt engineering workflows, and responsible AI practices.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to think strategically about data architecture while executing tactical implementations.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and translate AI / data requirements into actionable engineering plans.Proven ability to balance hands-on technical delivery with strategic thinking and team leadership in a small team environment.Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging AI development tools and willingness to experiment with new technologies to improve team effectiveness.Experience working in Agile (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) development environments.Experience working for a retail company with both a B2B and B2C business is a plus.Why Vari?
