The Respiratory Care Unit at Facility focuses on providing comprehensive respiratory therapy services to patients across various age groups and acuity levels. This unit emphasizes evidence-based practices in critical care, emergency response, and chronic respiratory management. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will work in a collaborative environment, supporting multidisciplinary teams in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments, and general wards. Key areas include ventilator management, airway clearance, oxygen therapy, and patient education. The unit prioritizes patient safety, quality outcomes, and adherence to regulatory standards, with opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Job Summary :

This position is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the Respiratory Care process of assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating. The RRT collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective, efficient patient care delivery towards the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Ideal for experienced travel therapists seeking a flexible contract role in New Jersey.

Key Responsibilities : \t

  • Assess and diagnose respiratory conditions, developing and implementing individualized care plans for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, or airway management.
  • \t

  • Perform diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function studies, arterial blood gas analysis, and sleep studies.
  • \t

  • Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizer therapy, chest physiotherapy, and ventilator support, while monitoring patient responses and adjusting interventions as needed.
  • \t

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to evaluate patient progress, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, and contribute to discharge planning.
  • \t

  • Educate patients and families on respiratory health, equipment usage, and self-management strategies.
  • \t

  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records and ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • \t

  • Respond to emergency situations, including code blue events, and provide critical care support in high-acuity settings.
  • \t

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, equipment maintenance, and continuing education to uphold departmental standards.
  • Qualifications and Requirements : \t

  • Education : Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
  • \t

  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years as an RRT; must have previous travel experience.
  • \t

  • Certifications : BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – all from AHA (American Heart Association) required. PALS must be in hand prior to starting.
  • \t

  • Licensure : Active RRT credentialed by the NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) and active Respiratory Care licensure by the New Jersey Board of Respiratory Care required.
  • \t

  • Skills : Strong clinical judgment, proficiency in respiratory equipment (e.g., ventilators, nebulizers), excellent communication, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Physical Requirements : Ability to stand for long periods, lift / move equipment, and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • \t

  • Other : Commitment to patient-centered care, ethical practices, and adaptability for travel assignments.

  • Scrub Color :  Not specified; follow facility guidelines upon arrival.

  • Compensation :  Competitive hourly rate based on experience, including travel stipends, housing allowances, and shift differentials for nights / weekends.

  • \tFailure to complete the full orientation will result in immediate termination—once scheduled, the candidate does not have the option of rescheduling any classes.

    \tCandidates will receive an email directly from Inspira the Friday before their Monday start. The email will contain the following : \t \t\t

    Instructions for signing on to the Virtual Welcome meeting and online HealthStream Module from Human Resources sometime prior to 8 : 30 AM on Monday. On Monday, GEO will be Virtual from their own computer. The modules assigned must be completed by Monday, or they will be removed from the orientation list.

  • In-person class schedule list—Typically Tuesday–Thursday; these classes are held in multiple locations. The location may not be listed in the original email; the candidate is required to use HealthStream to determine the class location on the day of. Please note : The POCT class will be required to attend and is not during orientation week.

  • Unit-based orientation schedule from the manager.
  • \t\t

  • Badge ID Link—instructions on how to make an appointment to receive their ID badge in person. Photo submissions are not permitted. Must be completed during orientation. The Badge is required for clock-ins.
