SFVAMC / UCSF ICU Nocturnist
The San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) is in search of applicants for ICU Nocturnist positions. The SFVAMC is a major teaching site for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and all department of medicine physicians enjoy a joint appointment at UCSF. Our hospital has 100 beds, with approximately 50% occupied by medical patients at any one time. Successful candidates will be excellent clinicians with a passion for inpatient medicine, strong interpersonal and communication skills, an interest in working with UCSF trainees, and committed to providing exceptional care for our Veterans.
In this role, the ICU Nocturnist will :
1) admit patients to the ICU and provide coverage for existing ICU patients
2) work with the overnight UCSF medicine residents to admit patients to the wards and assist in
cross-covering medical ward patients.
3) serve as the code blue leader and staff rapid response team calls
4) triage all transfer requests to the ICU and wards
The average number of ICU admissions during the night shift is typically 2 per week, with an average ICU census of 5-7 patients. The number of ward admissions is split with the night medicine resident, and ranges from 1-2 per person per night. There are 13 shifts per month, from 7P to 7A. Candidates must possess an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board certified / eligible in Internal Medicine. Candidates will become a member of the Pulmonary / Critical Care / Sleep / Allergy Medicine section at SFVA. Additional training in Pulmonary or Critical Care Medicine is not required, but desirable. Candidates must have a valid US medical license. Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA.
