Job Description

Description :

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Medical Director of Primary Care (MDPC) provides strategic and clinical leadership for the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered primary care at Fenway Health. This includes the integration of pediatric, adult, family, geriatric, transgender, and substance use disorder care, along with oversight of medical education. The MDPC is responsible for aligning primary care programs with institutional goals related to equity, access, and innovation, leading initiatives to advance health equity and expand open-access and same-day care models.

The MDPC directly supervises clinical leaders in primary care, including the Director of Medical Education, Medical Director of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), Medical Director of Trans Health, and the Borum Adolescent Health Program Lead. They also oversee the Medical Floor Leads and provide clinical supervision as needed. These program areas and reporting relationships may evolve over time in response to organizational needs and growth.

This role collaborates closely with the Director of Clinician Experience & Innovation (DCEI), as well as nursing, operations, and quality teams, to implement access-expanding initiatives and strengthen team-based care. The position blends administrative, clinical, supervisory, and strategic responsibilities.

  • Supervises and evaluates performance of key program leads and floor leads, ensuring program alignment with strategic goals and quality metrics.
  • Oversees recruitment, retention, and professional development for primary care clinicians.

  • Leads or participates in key leadership meetings to be assigned.
  • May be asked to serve as acting CMO when designated.
  • Works closely with the Finance team to ensure that clinician incentive goals are accurately tracked, reported, and shared at regular intervals. The MDPC is responsible for holding Finance accountable for timely and correct reporting and for communicating this information to Floor Leads and impacted staff.

Clinical Care (Approximately 15 hours / week)

  • Provides high-quality, comprehensive outpatient medical care to a diverse patient panel.

  • Participate in peer review, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains required clinical credentials and licensure.
  • Strategic Planning & Innovation

  • Co-leads the development of a long-term strategic vision for Fenway’s Primary Care, with a focus on access, health equity, population health, and workforce sustainability.

  • Evaluates internal data and community needs to inform service development and program design.
  • Works with the SVP of Public Health and program managers to support staffing of state-funded clinics and episodic care delivery sites.
  • Teaching, Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Works with the Director of Medical Education to ensure robust training, precepting, and evaluation of learners.
