American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for night shifts, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and a current MI RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 5-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • Unit includes 2 IMC beds in the hallway
  • Patient ratio is 2 : 1 for ICU and 3 : 1 for IMC, dependent on acuity
  • Common patient cases include respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacing
  • Strong involvement in ventilator management; no pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery cases
  • Nurses are required to titrate drips including levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulin
  • No nurse aides on the unit; charge nurses take full assignments
  • Hospitalist or intensivist coverage until 6pm, with ICU telephysician at night
  • Respiratory therapist available 24 / 7 but not housed in the ICU
  • RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow
  • RNs must verify their own telemetry strips and watch MS unit strips as well, training provided if needed
  • Uses the Paragon EMR system
  • 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Holiday coverage includes 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Potential for call or standby shifts
  • Floating to Med / Surg-Tele is required, potentially with ratios up to 1 : 6
  • Responsibilities include direct ICU and IMC care, medication and drip titration, ventilator management, and cardiac monitoring
  • Support is limited and may include covering for nurse aides or working without dedicated ancillary staff
  • Orientation includes a computer education day, shadowing, and a 12-hour shift with preceptor before independent work begins
  • Dress code requires solid professional attire with no specific color
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • Former permanent staff must have at least 6 months separation and require hospital approval for employment
  • Local candidates within 80 miles are eligible, but receive a reduced pay rate

    • Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required by start date
  • Current AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an ICU setting
  • Experience with titration of critical care drips
  • Must be comfortable with ventilator management and troubleshooting RT equipment
  • Ability to float to Med / Surg-Tele units as needed
  • Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience preferred, or comfort working in rural environments
  • Two professional references required : one supervisor within last 12 months, one from peer or supervisor within last 3 years
