Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for night shifts, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and a current MI RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in a 5-bed ICU within an acute care hospital settingUnit includes 2 IMC beds in the hallwayPatient ratio is 2 : 1 for ICU and 3 : 1 for IMC, dependent on acuityCommon patient cases include respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacingStrong involvement in ventilator management; no pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery casesNurses are required to titrate drips including levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulinNo nurse aides on the unit; charge nurses take full assignmentsHospitalist or intensivist coverage until 6pm, with ICU telephysician at nightRespiratory therapist available 24 / 7 but not housed in the ICURT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flowRNs must verify their own telemetry strips and watch MS unit strips as well, training provided if neededUses the Paragon EMR system12-hour night shifts with every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)Holiday coverage includes 2 out of 3 major holidaysPotential for call or standby shiftsFloating to Med / Surg-Tele is required, potentially with ratios up to 1 : 6Responsibilities include direct ICU and IMC care, medication and drip titration, ventilator management, and cardiac monitoringSupport is limited and may include covering for nurse aides or working without dedicated ancillary staffOrientation includes a computer education day, shadowing, and a 12-hour shift with preceptor before independent work beginsDress code requires solid professional attire with no specific colorAll clinicians must clock in and out at the facilityFormer permanent staff must have at least 6 months separation and require hospital approval for employmentLocal candidates within 80 miles are eligible, but receive a reduced pay rateRequirements
Active MI RN license required by start dateCurrent AHA ACLS and BLS certifications requiredMinimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an ICU settingExperience with titration of critical care dripsMust be comfortable with ventilator management and troubleshooting RT equipmentAbility to float to Med / Surg-Tele units as neededCritical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience preferred, or comfort working in rural environmentsTwo professional references required : one supervisor within last 12 months, one from peer or supervisor within last 3 yearsBenefits
