Position Summary
Designs and delivers instruction in undergraduate Biology lecture and laboratory courses offered by the School. Advises students, and participates in all department, various school, and University-wide committees and activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers instruction for both lecture and laboratory for undergraduate courses that include Evolution and Ecology (BIO 2424), Biostatistics (BIO 2320), Conservation Biology (BIO 3470), and two team-taught research courses (BIO 3352 and BIO 4351), as well as a general education science course when needed. – Daily 60%
- Adheres to the established class schedule and office hours on a daily basis. Submits textbook requests, syllabi, grades, assessments, and reports in a timely manner. – Daily 20%
- Remains knowledgeable of current research in the discipline by participating in conferences, publishing, and maintaining collaborative research relationships. – Monthly 5%
- Participates in curriculum and program development. – Monthly 5%
- Advises students for successful degree completion and pursuit of post baccalaureate training opportunities. – Monthly 5%
- Participates in departmental, school, and university meetings and academic activities. – Monthly 5%
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair. – As needed
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses Doctorate (Ph.D) or equivalent degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field is required. Experience
- Demonstrated potential for strong teaching and quality research required.
- Experience administering and teaching required courses, including lecture and laboratory, for Biology degree.
- Experience in college-level teaching using active learning techniques and best practices in classroom content delivery
- Has experience in assessment of learning outcomes
- Willingness to deliver required content.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge - Thorough understanding of Biology and its application in various disciplines.
- Familiarity with currently used technologies in the life sciences.
- Familiarity with effective use of online course management systems and ability to deliver content in various modalities.
- Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
- Ability to be discreet in handling confidential matters, while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
- Evidence of excellence in and commitment to teaching general education Biology courses.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to demonstrate and provide excellent service to both the University and the community.
