We are seeking an experienced Fiber Tester / Fiber Optic Technician to support telecommunications infrastructure projects in both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) environments. This role requires strong technical expertise in fiber testing, fault identification, and troubleshooting, along with hands-on experience supporting fiber splicing and cable installation activities. The ideal candidate can work independently, apply sound technical judgment, and maintain high standards for safety and workmanship.
Fiber Tester Key ResponsibilitiesOperate and maintain fiber testing equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, traffic identifiers, and digital multimeters (EXFO and AFL platforms).
Perform power meter testing and ensure proper testing procedures are followed.
Analyze OTDR traces to identify fiber faults, splice loss, micro-bends, macro-bends, and other signal impairments.
Troubleshoot fiber issues across fiber spans and determine appropriate corrective actions.
Support OSP and ISP fiber splicing and cable pulling activities as needed.
Work with fusion and mechanical splicers, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, and related fiber preparation tools.
Utilize hand tools and field equipment such as toners, duct rodders, ladders, and bucket trucks.
Maintain responsibility for assigned tools and testing equipment.
Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Complete required documentation and maintain organized work practices.
Perform work independently or with minimal supervision while meeting project timelines and quality standards.
Minimum of years of hands-on experience in fiber testing and troubleshooting.
Strong proficiency with OTDR testing and trace analysis (EXFO and AFL).
Experience performing power meter testing and fault isolation.
Familiarity with OSP and ISP fiber splicing and cable installation practices.
Ability to identify and diagnose micro-bends, macro-bends, and other fiber impairments.
Comfortable working day or night shifts as required.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a drug screening and DOT medical exam.
Must be at least years old.
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and organizational skills.
Ability to follow safety standards and work independently with minimal supervision.
