Under the leadership of a new Director, SBCC is entering a phase of significant growth and leadership in the field. Stony Brook Cancer Center (SBCC) is seeking to recruit an experienced biostatistician and dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop and lead an independent research program, be able to thrive in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment designed to foster advances in basic and applied science and clinical research, and serve in a leadership role in manner that successfully advances these fields in a collaborative manner.

SBCC conducts basic science, translational, clinical, and population sciences research on cancer, and includes scientists and physicians from 23 academic departments, and 4 schools at Stony Brook University (SBU). Spanning across multiple cancer types, the research programs at the SBCC include Oncogenic Drivers and Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis (ODMC); Imaging, Biomarker Discovery, and Engineering Sciences (IBES); and Lipid Signaling and Metabolism in Cancer (LSMC). Further, there are arching areas including a Translational Initiative in Population Sciences (TIPS), an expanding Clinical Trials Operation and an expanding Community Outreach and Engagement Effort. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong training and research in clinical trials and applications of statistical methods to biomedical sciences. Experience in working with researchers across disciplines is considered to be of high value. Experience in leadership in the field by serving on regional and national committees is also important. The Director of Biostatistics will be expected to contribute to SBCC growth through research and scholarship and maintain active involvement in appropriate national or international organizations and bodies. In addition to Research contributions, the Director for the SBCC Biostatistics Shared Resource will have Administrative, Teaching and Service responsibilities. These responsibilities will include assisting in developing extramural grant applications in collaboration with cancer center investigators, including program-projects and other multi-project grants and providing expert Biostatistical guidance, mentoring and teaching within the Cancer Center and Family Population & Preventive Medicine communities including contributions to the Graduate Program in Public Health.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or an equivalent terminal degree. Cancer-relevant research experience as evidenced by a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Expertise in statistical design and execution of early phase clinical trial development. A proven history of serving as a PI or Co-PI on extramural funding. Teaching experience at the masters or doctoral level with proven trainee & faculty mentorship skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

Active extramural funding from Federal programs such as NIH in Cancer.
