Job Summary
- Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge of the team and / or unit.
Essential Functions
Performs basic medical tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake- output, turning, moving or repositioning patients necessary for comfort or medical careAnswers patients call lights, anticipates patient's needs and makes rounds of assigned patientsAssists with patient admissions, discharges and transfersTransports patients to various departments for ordered tests / proceduresPerforms patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's ageProvides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the scope of practice for a certified nursing assistant / nursing assistantProvides general nursing assistant care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying / utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, and ambulating patientsProvides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning over bed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shiftProvides evening care which includes hands / face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, refreshing linen, cleaning over bed tables, straightening room, and other general care as neededPrepares patients for meals, serves, and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients as necessaryPractices sterile techniques and infection control proceduresMaintains accurate and continued documentationDocumentation meets current standards and policiesCommunicates in a clear and concise manner with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principlesObserves patients mental and physical conditions, reports any changes to supervising nursing staffInteracts professionally with patients / families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignityIdentifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious / spiritual needs of patients and their familiesReports patient complaints of pain to supervising nursing staffPerforms other reasonably related job duties as assigned or requested, within scope of practiceKeeps current with principles and practices, regulations, and standards that apply to healthcareKnowledge / Skills / Abilities / Expectations

Education
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent, preferredLicenses / Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire or transferBlood Glucose Monitoring Training Program certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer
