$5000 Hiring Incentive.
The Child Life Specialist plans and implements medically oriented and developmentally appropriate activities which support the patients and siblings. The Child Life Specialist utilizes a family centered care approach in assuring the psychosocial needs of the patient and caregivers are met by providing education on medical procedures, offering emotional support and creating opportunities for normal growth and development.
Responsibilities
Plans and facilitates activities and interventions in group and individual settings to help patients and caregivers cope with medical situations and meet their developmental, emotional and cultural needs.
Facilitates the orientation, adjustment, and ongoing support of patients and caregivers to the health care experiences, illness or disability and advocates for them within the medical environment.
Observes and assesses patients, siblings and caregiver / patient interactions and provides information when appropriate to clinicians.
Supervises patients and siblings in the playroom.
Models developmentally appropriate interactions for patients, caregivers and staff.
Provides medical procedure preparation, support, and accompaniment whenever necessary to support the patient and / or caregivers.
Communicates and documents patient and caregiver interventions as appropriate.
Maintains a safe, therapeutic milieu in all patient areas and sustains appropriate professional boundaries with patients, caregivers and staff.
Provides supervision for child life students and volunteers.
Maintains quality and effectiveness of patient services through implementation of and compliance with all departmental and / or Institute policies and procedures, PI activities, and yearly program assessment.
Qualifications
Child Life Internship with completion of 480 hours of clinical experience under Certified Child Life Specialist in accredited Pediatric Hospital required.
Must have certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist by the Child Life Council or certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
CPR and Choking Infants / Children / Adults certification required.
