General Function

The Territory Sales Manager of Northern CA will oversee a designated portion of a sales region, serving as the primary liaison for sales-related activities for our commercial audio and conferencing systems division. This role involves fostering relationships with design engineers, sales teams, and account representatives to deliver high-quality audio products and conferencing systems tailored to meet the needs of businesses across various industries.

The ideal candidate will have experience with audio and conferencing systems and demonstrate strong organizational skills, reliability, and self-motivation. Key performance indicators include monthly sales metrics, pipeline management, and internal collaboration. Collaboration with the System Solutions team is essential for project coordination and major account development in strategic industries. Responsibilities also include enhancing sales with existing clients, generating new leads, managing customer relations, providing input for applications engineering, qualifying opportunities, and increasing Audio-Technica's market visibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the sales efforts and manage objectives within the assigned territory.
  • Maintain and develop the existing account base through product demonstrations, presentations, opportunity identification, quoting, and pipeline management.
  • Monitor and report relevant field information, including market trends, competition, sales opportunities, and channel activities.
  • Collaborate internally with System Solutions, Application Engineering, Product Development, and Marketing teams to share insights and enhance team performance.
  • Attend regional, national, and internal meetings as required.
  • Execute the complete sales cycle, including lead generation, solution development, negotiation, and closure, while maintaining ongoing account relationships.
  • Engage internal resources to support sales pursuits and maintain communication with all functional groups involved in the sales process.
  • Assess market opportunities, develop business plans, conduct territory analysis, and ongoing market research.
  • Coordinate and attend trade shows, promote company products, develop leads, and maintain customer relationships.
  • Demonstrate and train customers on product knowledge, promote the Audio-Technica brand, and foster positive relationships with the dealer network.
  • Perform revenue forecasting, account planning, and other sales administrative tasks to grow business profitability.
  • Identify new customers and distributors to increase sales opportunities.
  • Adhere to company pricing policies, budget guidelines, and expense policies.
  • Provide management with ongoing reports on sales updates, forecasts, call reports, and other defined metrics.
  • Candidates must reside in Northern California (Major metro area preferred) or be willing to relocate to the territory.

Skills

  • Product Knowledge : A thorough understanding of commercial audio products and conferencing systems, including their features, specifications, and applications, is essential. This knowledge enables the sales manager to effectively communicate the value proposition of the products to customers and address any technical inquiries they may have.
  • Sales Experience : Proven experience in B2B sales, preferably in the audio or technology industry, is crucial. Must be skilled in lead generation, prospecting, negotiation, and closing deals. A track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Relationship Building : Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, channel partners, and internal stakeholders is vital for success. Sales Managers must be adept at networking, cultivating trust, and understanding the needs of their customers to effectively position their products and services.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent communication skills are essential for conveying technical information in a clear and concise manner. Sales managers must be able to articulate complex concepts in a way that is understandable to customers with varying levels of technical expertise. Additionally, strong presentation skills are important for delivering engaging product demonstrations and sales pitches.
  • Problem‑Solving Ability : The ability to identify customer needs, address concerns, and propose tailored solutions is critical. Sales managers must be proactive in addressing customer inquiries and resolving any issues that may arise during the sales process. Ability to think creatively to overcome objections and close deals is required.
  • Organization and Time Management : Territory Sales Managers will juggle multiple accounts and sales activities simultaneously. Strong organizational and time‑management skills are essential for prioritizing tasks, managing sales pipelines, and maximizing productivity.
  • Adaptability : The audio and conference system industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies and market trends emerging regularly. Sales managers must be adaptable and open to learning about new products, industry developments, and customer requirements to stay competitive in the market.
  • Tech‑Savvy : Given the technical nature of audio and conference systems, sales managers must have a good understanding of relevant technologies and tools. Familiarity with CRM software for managing customer relationships and sales pipelines is particularly beneficial.
  • Negotiation Skills : Effective negotiation skills are essential for navigating complex sales scenarios, including pricing discussions, contract negotiations, and resolving conflicts. Sales managers should be able to find win‑win solutions that satisfy both the customer's needs and the company's objectives.
  • Team Collaboration : Collaboration with internal teams, such as marketing, customer support, engineering, and product development, is often necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and drive sales success. Must be able to work effectively across departments to leverage resources and expertise to support sales efforts.
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (preferred).
  • Technical Education or background in audio engineering, electronics, or telecommunications can be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven sales experience.
  • Proven track record of success in B2B sales, with experience selling audio products, conferencing systems, or related technology solutions highly desirable.
  • Experience with MS Dynamics 356 or SAP highly beneficial.
  • Must reside in Northern California (Major metro area preferred).
