Knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS) and HIS preferred
Description :
This position performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist should have knowledge about Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation.
This includes the use of gamma cameras (both planar and SPECT), PET, radiation detectors / counters, and dose calibrators.
Quality control of all equipment is essential.
The technologist should also have knowledge about radiation safety practices and handling.
This includes understanding patient and occupational exposures, dosimetry, and ALARA techniques that include time, distance, and shielding.
Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines pertaining to handling, administering, and transportation of radioactive materials is necessary.
The technologist should be knowledgeable about radiopharmacy.
This includes the safe administration, preparation, measurement, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
Responsibilities :
Injects and administers all radiopharmaceuticals.
Assays radiopharmaceutical activities.
Calculates volume and activity concentrations for radiopharmaceuticals.
Knowledge and use of dosages and / or dose ranges for radiopharmaceuticals as listed per protocol.
Enters records in a dose tracking system.
Performs laboratory procedures, including measurement, manipulation, and preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits and unit doses.
Understands nuclear medicine protocols and procedures.
Positions patients on equipment per protocol and procedure.
Knowledge of acquisition parameters used in protocols and procedures is required.
Monitors patients during procedures.
Possesses intravenous (IV) access starting skills and appropriate site selection.
Uses aseptic techniques when accessing patients.
Operates all nuclear medicine instrumentation devices.
Knowledge of quality control requirements for all equipment used is necessary.
Understands and applies radiation safety regulations and procedures diligently.
