SUMMARY :
Performs specialized clinical laboratory testing in all clinical laboratory disciplines. Performs and reports results, proof tests, and assumes responsibility for accuracy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Utilizes laboratory computer systems to document all actions taken concerning patient and quality control testing.
- Performs laboratory testing following laboratory policies and procedures.
- Performs and documents instrument calibrations following manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance following laboratory policies and procedures and manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Performs quality control testing as required in laboratory policies and procedures. All remedial actions taken for out-of-control results will be documented.
- Performs STAT testing promptly and can organize testing priorities during heavy workload situations to expedite patient testing results.
- Relays Panic Values to the ordering service and documents all actions taken.
- Follows laboratory safety policies and procedures, including Standard Precautions.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :
Performs venous and arterial puncture to obtain specimens for laboratory testing.Maintains a clean work area and adequate supplies and reagentsAssists in researching and implementing new testing procedures.Assists in the training and supervision of Laboratory Assistants.Supervises lab assistants and phlebotomists on weekends and after office hours.Other duties as assigned from time to time.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED :
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.Good manual dexterity and ability to follow instructions.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION :
Four-year college degree with a valid Clinical Laboratory License issued by the State of California Department of Health Services required.AGE OF POPULATION SERVED :
