Pharmacy Technician I
Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing a high level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical related supplies.
Responsibilities include :
- Replenishing automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure.
- Troubleshooting problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines.
- Forwarding concerns that cannot be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner.
- Preparing sterile products following standard procedures under the supervision and check of a licensed pharmacist.
- Ensuring all quality related procedures are followed.
- Inputting information into the hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
- Dispensing required medications and supplies in areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment.
- Performing extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy.
- Ordering and receiving medication inventory; rotating stock and checking expiration dates routinely.
- Following all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets.
- Maintaining assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Assembling, tabulating and analyzing quality improvement data when requested.
- Assisting in reports and survey tabulation when requested.
- Performing monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned.
- Entering data into the computer system specialized to that activity.
- Attending appropriate orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
- Participating in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age-related special needs and behaviors, etc.
- Ensuring a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to it being dispensed.
- Consulting with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes, when making exceptions to a policy that would benefit the patient.
- Referring clinical questions to a pharmacist.
- Demonstrating behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Performing all other related job duties as assigned.
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
High School diploma is required.
Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
