Staff Accountant (General)

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting and supporting the Finance Department in financial statement preparation, transactional processing and other general accounting functions. Duties may require interaction with and knowledge of other areas due to the nature of financial analysis. Work requires demonstrated ability to think critically, do financial analysis and organize workload to meet established priorities and special projects as assigned. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports the financial operations of the organization through account reconciliation, financial analysis and the preparation of financial reports.

Performs general accounting functions related to the preparation of journal entries, reports, bank reconciliation and cost reporting.

Works collaboratively with leadership and external auditors on the preparation of requested information.

Assists in the preparation of appropriate tax returns for the health system.

Effectively communicates financial information and plans to facilitate informed decision making.

Assists and supports department leadership with special projects as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS

None required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of general accounting functions, at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other closely related field or combination of two years of college, technical or business school and related work experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Approximately two to three years progressively more responsible related work experience preferred.

Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a variety of internal and external working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and with interdepartmental teams.

Excellent analytical and communication skills necessary to gather interpret and verify accuracy of accounting data.

Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
