Position Summary

With continual and direct patient contact, the Patient Access Representative I performs diversified tasks and duties associated with registrations in the Emergency Department. Collects demographics, obtains signatures, and basic insurance information.

Essential Responsibilities

• Admit / register patients in a timely and efficient manner using multiple methods of communications (bedside, in-person, over the phone, etc.). Obtain all required admission / registration information and ensures an accurate medical record is created. Promote accurate billing information.
• Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with all patients, customers, and members of the health care team providing knowledgeable and professional communication.
• Consistently complies with state and federal regulations; obtain appropriate signatures, completes all required forms, and provide patient information as required.
• Collects co-pay, deductibles, deposits and payments due and / or arranges for payment plans with each patient. Reviews and discusses all patient financial responsibility at the appropriate time in the admission / registration process.
• Communicates and coordinates with all departments, medical offices, healthcare facilities and all other entities for patient services and information.
• Completes forms and applications. Documents accurately and in a timely manner.
• Actively attends department staff meetings and required educational opportunities.
• Meets Quality Assurance benchmarks, completes daily work list, self corrects errors, participates in audits and performance improvement projects.
• May cross-train in other areas within the department when necessary as well as perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Requirements

Education : High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Experience : Hospital patient access, medical billing, or office administrative experience preferred. Licenses / Certificates / Registration : Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) certification preferred.
