Your impact

As we expand internationally, and particularly into the DACH region, we are on the lookout for a dynamic Business Development Lead. This individual will play a crucial role in propelling our growth within German-speaking markets, thereby being instrumental in Handshake's expansion efforts. Reporting to the Director of Go-To-Market (GTM), your responsibility will include developing and implementing a strategic plan focused on establishing Handshake as the market leader, with a particular emphasis on cultivating relationships with universities and incorporating them into the Handshake network.

Your role

  • As a senior team member, you will develop a comprehensive strategy for engaging and partnering with universities in the DACH region.
  • Build and nurture high-level relationships with key influencers within the higher education landscape, becoming a trusted partner.
  • Tailor and communicate Handshake’s unique value proposition to meet the specific needs of German universities, ensuring it resonates and delivers impact.
  • Be the face of Handshake in DACH, representing Handshake at various educational forums, conferences, and networking events across Germany.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the EDU sales and marketing team to build our brand as a thought leader, innovator, and genuine partner with educational institutions.
  • Gather market intelligence to drive product innovation, ensuring Handshake meets the nuanced needs of the DACH market.

Your experience

  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Significant experience in business development, with demonstrated success in navigating long and complex sales cycles.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of the higher education system, particularly university career services, is a plus.
  • Flexibility to travel across Germany.
  • For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
