Job Description

POSITION TITLE : Paraprofessional - Deaf / Hard of Hearing

STATUS : Classified – Non-exempt, Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY : This position is responsible for assisting in the care, instruction, and supervision of students with additional needs in the classroom, resource room, or self-contained classroom. It includes clerical tasks, monitoring student behavior, and providing feedback. The paraprofessional reports to certified staff and is part of the paraeducator team.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Accommodate students with IEPs for class participation.
  • Assist students with aggressive and challenging behaviors.
  • Attend in-service training, meetings, and workshops.
  • Implement behavioral and educational plans from the IEP team.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups to meet IEP goals.
  • Maintain accurate data on student progress.
  • Monitor students to ensure a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Support certified staff with data and IEP development.
  • Assist students with personal care and restroom needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Paraeducators in Title I schools need 48 college hours or completion of Title I assessments.
  • Relevant job experience preferred.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
  • High confidentiality, motivation, and responsibility.
  • Strong team collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • 20-hour in-service training annually.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    The role involves frequent physical activities such as running, walking, sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, balancing, carrying items, and fine motor skills. Lifting requirements include up to 35 pounds independently and more with assistance.
